May 09, 2025 | Women's Tennis
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. – The 10th-seeded Tennessee women's tennis team posted a 4-0 sweep at No. 7 Virginia during the Super Regional round of the 2025 Women's NCAA Team Championship on Friday afternoon at Boar's Head Tennis Center.
The triumph marked the fourth time in the program's history the Lady Vols have reached the quarterfinals, including the second consecutive year.
"Virginia is a great team, but I loved that we were able to come out here knowing what we are capable of," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "For us to get the doubles point and have the fan support that we had was huge. In singles, you saw all six courts play really solid tennis. I am looking forward to going back and watching film. Could not be more excited about the team and where we're at."
Doubles was a back-and-forth affair, with the Lady Vols (19-7) ultimately grabbing the upper hand to secure a 1-0 advantage over Virginia (22-5). The No. 74-ranked pair of Elza Tomase and Saray Yli-Piipari notched the first victory with a 6-3 decision over the No. 41-ranked duo of Martina Genis Salas & Annabelle Xu. The No. 30-ranked pairing of Catherine Aulia and Leyla Britez Risso captured the doubles point with a 7-5 victory against Meldoie Collard and Karoline Kazakova. Maeve Thornton and Vanesa Suarez were down, 4-5, when play halted.

No. 7 Tomase clinched the match with a dominant 6-1, 6-3 victory against No. 27 Sara Ziodato, logging her seventh-ranked win of the season.
