#21 Tennessee Sweeps Ole Miss, 7-0

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 21 Tennessee men's tennis team secured a 7-0 victory over Ole Miss on Thursday night at Barksdale Stadium.
The Vols (12-5, 3-3 SEC) found momentum once again in doubles, clinching the point for the third straight match. Shunsuke Mitsui and Alan Jesudason started things out with a 6-3 display on court two. Ole Miss (11-5, 2-4 SEC) tied things up on court three, making things come down to court one.
The No. 11 duo of Alex Kotzen and Alejandro Moreno were able to provide in the clutch and clinch the doubles point for UT, defeating Isac Stromberg and Kai Milburn in a tiebreaker, 7-6(5). Mitsui and Jesudason are now 15-3 on the year while playing as a doubles pair, while Kotzen and Moreno have secured a 14-4 record together.
Jesudason was one of two individuals to win his match in straight sets, opening up the singles scoring against Benjamin Martin, 6-0, 6-2. Jose Garcia followed that performance with a 7-6(2), 6-2 showing of his own on court three.
Ian Cruz and Moreno secured a pair of hard-fought wins for Tennessee that proved crucial in securing the sweep. Cruz, a Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, native, posted a 6-1, 6(11)-7, 6-0 decision on court six to clinch the match, then Moreno tallied an emphatic 4-6, 6-2, 7-5 win as the remaining matches were played out.
The lone ranked singles individuals for the Vols, No. 25 Mitsui and No. 29 Kotzen, grabbed wins in the last two showdowns of the day to complete the 7-0 sweep. Kotzen was the first of the two to finish their match, defeating Marcel Kamrowski, 7-6(5), 4-6, 6-4. Mitsui then finished the day, earning a win over Noah Schlagenhauf, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).
DOUBLES HEATING UP
With Thursday's doubles win against Ole Miss, the Vols have acquired the early advantage for the 12th time this season. Tennessee is 11-1 on the year when the doubles point swings in its favor, and the past three matches have seen the early momentum shift gained by UT.
KOTZEN INCHING CLOSER
With today's singles win, Alex Kotzen has reached 95 singles wins for his illustrious career. The New York native is looking to become the second Vol on the roster to have 100 career singles victories, joining senior Shunsuke Mitsui with the feat.
