April 25, 2024 | Rowing
RALEIGH, N.C. – The fifth-ranked Tennessee rowing team is primed for the 2024 Lake Wheeler Invitational, set to run Friday-Saturday this weekend in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The field consists of 18 teams, half of which are either ranked (five) or receiving votes (four) in the latest CRCA Rankings. Tennessee rose 10 spots in the national rankings this week after a stellar showing last weekend at the Big Ten Invitational, in which it won 14 of its 15 races.
The Invitational will be streamed live on ACCNX (Friday AM, Friday PM, Saturday).
No. 5 Tennessee is joined by four ranked foes in 10th-ranked Syracuse, No. 11 Pennsylvania, 16th-ranked Duke and No. 18 Washington State. In the receiving votes category and also competing in Raleigh for the event is the quartet of Alabama, Iowa, Miami and UCF.
Boston College, Boston University, Clemson, Georgetown, Kansas, Louisville, Navy, North Carolina and Tulsa round out the field.
The first two rounds of the event will take place Friday, with round three set to conclude Saturday morning.
Tennessee opens competition Friday at 10:20 a.m. ET with its third varsity eight boat in action. The Lady Vols' final race, the 1V8, of Friday's first round is slated for 12:20 p.m. UT's first second-round race is scheduled for 3:10 p.m. Friday. Day one will wrap up with a 5:10 p.m. 1V8 race.
The race order remains the same for each of the weekend's three sessions. Tennessee's first race Saturday begins at 9:10 a.m. and UT wraps up the Invitational with an 11:10 a.m. race.
