#19 Tennessee Blanks ETSU, 7-0
February 10, 2024 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The No. 19 Tennessee women's tennis team posted a convincing 7-0 shutout win against ETSU on Saturday at Goodfriend Tennis Center. The Lady Volunteers sailed past the Buccaneers for the 16th time in as many opportunities in program history, including the 11th time on Rocky Top.
"Every single one of our players is ready to win at a high level," said head coach Alison Ojeda. "These guys normally push us pretty hard and they pushed us per game, not per set. What I mean by that is we are winning games 40-30 instead of deuce or 40-15 instead of 40-30. When you start to do that from one game to the next, to the next and next. Then, you start to win sets 6-0, 6-1, and 6-2s, so we are ready to perform at a higher level against better competition. From a team standpoint, we got better all across the board today."
Tennessee (6-2) grabbed the doubles point in a quick affair over ETSU (1-4). Lauren Anzalotta and Catherine Aulia tallied the first win over Alessandra Caceres and Sofia Markova, 6-1. Leyla Britez Risso and Eleonora Molinaro picked up their third consecutive win of the season by defeating Ralitsa Alexandrova and Jana Rovira, 6-2. The Lady Vols claimed the doubles point for the seventh time this season.
In singles action, the Big Orange posted six straight wins to complete the match. On court two, Elza Tomase claimed the first singles point over Fernada Carvajal, 6-1, 6-0. No. 125 Anzalotta posted the second singles win on court four against Rovira, 6-0, 6-0.
Esther Adeshina landed both sets on court five to take down Alessandra Caceres in a 6-1, 6-2 win. Britez Risso collected a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Ralitsa Alexandrova. No. 83 Aulia followed suit, adding a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daniela Riviera. No. 94 Alana Wolfberg capped the match by taking down Sofia Markova 6-2, 6-4.
