November 26, 2024 | Volleyball
AUSTIN, Texas – Tennessee volleyball wraps up its regular season slate Wednesday night with a rematch of last year's Sweet 16 contest against the 14th-ranked Texas Longhorns at Gregory Gym.
Â
The Lady Vols battled hard in the showdown before falling short in five sets against Texas, who went on to win its second-straight national title. It was arguably the top match of the entire 2023 NCAA Tournament. Tennessee was the lone team to take the Longhorns to a fifth set in the tournament, with the final three sets being determined by two points each. First serve is at 8 p.m. ET, and the match will be televised on SEC Network.
Â
This season, the Big Orange (15-10, 8-7 SEC) has positioned itself well for a fourth-straight NCAA Tournament bid. The Lady Vols have won four of their last five matches and rank 31st in the RPI following a 2-0 weekend that saw UT sweep both Arkansas and South Carolina.
Â
The Longhorns are 16-6 and 11-3 during conference play in their first season in the SEC. They've won their last four matches and are likely to be a national seed in the postseason.
Â
Up next, Tennessee will learn its NCAA Tournament fate on Sunday at 6 p.m. ET, when the bracket is revealed live on ESPN.
