Woodruff Announces 2025 Men’s Tennis Spring Schedule
October 22, 2024 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Following a 2024 spring campaign where the Tennessee men's tennis team reached the NCAA Quarterfinals for the third time in the last four years, head coach Chris Woodruff announced the team's 2025 spring schedule on Tuesday.
For the first time in program history last season, Tennessee reached a perfect 18-0 record at home, including four wins over top-25 ranked opponents. Finishing with an ITA end-of-year ranking of seventh, UT was one of only four programs in the country to be ranked inside the top 10 all season.
Entering the 2025 spring slate, Woodruff's eighth as the head coach at Tennessee and 23rd year on staff, the Vols have a mix of returning talent, experienced transfers and skilled freshmen that make this team poised to make a splash this upcoming year. The 2025 squad has three returners, four transfers and two freshmen in total.
"We have a very special group this year with six new guys who are all very hard workers and great team guys," said assistant coach Jaime Barajas. "Every single one of them will be a grand contributor in one way or another."
The Big Orange will play in 24 guaranteed regular season matches, with 15 at home and nine on the road. The Vols are set to face 11 top-25 opponents from last season (according to the ITA final 2024 team rankings), including four top-10 foes this spring.
Tennessee opens the season with a doubleheader against Belmont and Tennessee Tech on Jan. 11. The following week, the squad will hit the road and take on MTSU (Jan. 16) and Wake Forest (Jan. 19).
The 2025 ITA Kickoff Weekend will be hosted in Knoxville for the sixth year in a row, running Jan. 24-25. Auburn, Illinois and Michigan will travel to Rocky Top, with the winner advancing to the ITA Indoor National Championships from Feb. 14-17. That event is set to be jointly hosted by SMU and Baylor.
To end the month of January and begin February, UT will play host to Michigan State (Jan. 31), TCU (Feb. 2) and Penn and Elon in a doubleheader (Feb. 8).
Opening up conference play, the Vols will face Mississippi State in Knoxville on Feb. 21 before embarking on a three-game road stint to Georgia (Feb. 23), Oklahoma (Feb. 28) and Arkansas (March 2).
The next two weekends, the Big Orange are set to play home matches against Kentucky (March 9), Ole Miss (March 13) and LSU (March 15). Tennessee will then head to the Yellowhammer State for matchups against Alabama (March 20) and Auburn (March 22).
The squad will then return to Rocky Top for an in-state matchup against Vanderbilt on March 29.
Beginning the month of April, UT will face its final road tests at South Carolina (April 3) and Florida (April 5). Rounding out its regular season the following week, Tennessee will face Texas A&M (April 11) at home and host senior day with a rematch of the 2024 NCAA Quarterfinals against Texas (April 13).
South Carolina will host the 2025 SEC Tournament, which is scheduled for April 16-20. NCAA Regional play will follow from May 3-4, followed by Super Regionals on April 10. The 2025 NCAA Championships will be held at Baylor University's Hurd Tennis Center from May 15-18.
