Rylie West Named to 2023 SEC Community Service Team
May 09, 2023 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Southeastern Conference announced Tuesday afternoon that Tennessee junior Rylie West has been named to the 2023 SEC Softball Community Service Team. The Community Service Team looks to highlight athletes from each respective institution who give back to their community in superior service efforts.
An outfielder from Eastvale, California, West has spent her time away from the diamond volunteering with Big Brothers Big Sisters and serving with Tennessee's Community Holiday Meal. She has also assisted with Tennessee Athletics' annual VOLoween night, which includes trick-or-treating around the athletic complex, face painting and playing games with children from the Knoxville community.
A member of UT's VOLeaders Academy, West went on a service trip this past summer to Rwanda. Additionally, she is a two-time member of the Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll and a two-time Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete.
In her third year at Tennessee, West has started 41 games this season and is hitting .261 with 17 runs scored, three home runs and 25 RBIs.
West and the 2023 SEC regular-season champion Lady Vols travel to Fayetteville, Arkansas, this week for the 2023 SEC Tournament. Tennessee will open the conference showcase Thursday at 8 p.m. ET as the No. 1 seed, facing either 8th-seeded Florida or 9th-seeded Kentucky on SEC Network.
