May 16, 2023 | Softball, Tennessee Tailored
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – McKenna Gibson, Giulia Koutsoyanopulos, Kiki Milloy, Ashley Rogers and Nicola Simpson were each named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District Team on Tuesday afternoon.
The CSC recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom.
A sophomore infielder from Santa Clarita, California, Gibson earns her first Academic All-District nod. In the classroom, she is studying sociology with a concentration in criminology and criminal justice and is also minoring in psychology. Her second academic honor, Gibson earned SEC First-Year Academic Honor Roll last season.
On the field, the first baseman had a breakout season hitting .380 with 15 home runs and a team-leading 57 RBIs. She was named All-SEC First Team for her performance on the diamond.
Koutsoyanopulos is a first-time CSC Academic All-District honoree in her first season with the Big Orange after joining the program as a transfer in the summer. The left-handed catcher graduated from Arizona in just two years and is pursuing a Master's in English with a concentration in literature, criticism and textual studies.
A Mission, Viejo, California, native, Koutsoyanopulos had never played behind the plate before joining the Lady Vols but has made the move to catcher seamlessly. Starting 50 games this season, she has hit three home runs and driven in 33 RBIs.
Named a University of Tennessee Torchbearer – the highest student honor conferred by the university – Milloy has garnered CSC All-District honors for the second time in her career. Last season, she earned Academic All-America Second Team accolades following her all-district nomination.
The Woodinville, Washington, native has also been named an Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete on two occasions.
Tabbed All-SEC First Team this season, Milloy leads the nation in home runs with 23. The mark is a career-high for the senior outfielder and is also a single-season school record. Additionally, she ranks among the nation's best in batting average (.421), runs scored (74), slugging percentage (.966) and stolen bases (34).
The SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year, Rogers has garnered CSC Academic All-District for the third time in her career – she is also a two-time Academic All-American. A native of Athens, Tennessee, Rogers graduated from UT in May 2022 with a 4.0 GPA and an undergraduate degree in kinesiology. Currently, in grad school, she is pursuing a Master's in kinesiology with a biomechanics concentration.
An All-American in the circle, Rogers leads the SEC and ranks third in the nation in earned run average at 0.70. She owns a 16-1 record this season and has made 23 appearances with 17 starts, 10 complete games and six shutouts. In 119.1 innings of work, she has fanned 160 batters and held her opponents to a .120 batting average.
Graduating from Tennessee in just two years, Simpson has been named to the all-district team for the first time. Graduating with a degree in psychology, she has been admitted into the Master of Science in Kinesiology program for the fall 2023 semester.
The sophomore pitcher is a member of the SEC Honor Roll and an Easton/NFCA Scholar-Athlete. Simpson is a three-time Dean's List honoree.
In the circle, she has appeared in 10 games and boasts an ERA of 1.34 over 15.2 innings of work.
The CSC Academic All-America program separately recognizes softball honorees in four divisions — NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA. Academic All-District honorees advance to the CSC Academic All-America ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees scheduled to be announced on June 6.
