May 16, 2023 | Baseball, Tennessee Tailored
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee baseball had a record five players named to the Academic All-District team by the College Sports Communicators (formerly known as CoSIDA) on Tuesday.
Drew Beam, Chase Burns, Chase Dollander, Jared Dickey and Charlie Taylor all earned CSC All-District recognition for the first time in their careers. UT's five all-district selections bested the previous record of four from last year.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative grade point average (on a 4.0 scale) at his/her current institution. Nominated athletes must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team's games at the position listed on the nomination form while pitchers must have at least 10.0 innings pitched.
The aforementioned players will now be on the voting ballot for the CSC Academic All-America teams, which will be announced on June 7.
The trio of Beam, Burns and Dollander have once again anchored the Vols' strong pitching staff combining for 16 of the team's 35 victories and 243 strikeouts.
Dickey currently leads the team in a handful of offensive categories, including batting average (.352), at-bats (196), hits (69), triples (3), RBIs (46) and total bases (116).
Taylor has improved by leaps and bounds this season at the plate, setting career highs in nearly every offensive category while more than doubling his career output with 15 runs, 15 hits, five doubles, three home runs and 11 RBIs.
All five of Tennessee's all-district honorees have been successful off the field as well as on it, with each having been named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll last year.
