Tennessee Wraps Up Big Ten Invitational with Two Race Wins

SARASOTA, Fla. – Tennessee rowing's 2V8 and 2V4 boats picked up their second race victories of the weekend to wrap up the Big Ten Invitational at Nathan Benderson Park on Saturday morning.
"Our crews had exciting, competitive racing this weekend," Head Coach Lisa Glenn said. "The team is energized to move forward in preparation for our next race challenge in North Carolina at the Lake Wheeler Invite."
The 18th-ranked Lady Vols competed in five races with five boats during the final session of the regatta. Going against a loaded field with 15 of the 16 teams ranked inside the top 20 or receiving votes in the latest Pocock CRCA Coaches Poll, Tennessee raced against Iowa, Michigan State and UCF.
In the 2V8 boat, Abigail Bacci coxed the lineup of Kate Schildmeyer, Casey Chronister, Beatrice Bernard, Alex Pidgeon, Riley Ferdelman, Paige Reymann, Sheya Lavin and Haley Savastano to a win. The crew crossed the finish line in first with a time of 6:33.314, beating second place by more than five seconds. For the weekend, the boat compiled an impressive 8-1 record to improve to 16-3 on the season.
Rounding out the varsity eights, the 1V8 cruised to a second-place finish in its race thanks to a weekend-best time of 6:28.341 to defeat UCF and Michigan State. The 3V8 boat notched a mark of 7:02.082 to top UCF.
In the other varsity eight races, the 1V8 recorded wins against Minnesota and Wisconsin throughout the day with a best time of 6:28.852 coming in the afternoon session. The 3V8 boat notched a 4-2 record between its two races. In the morning, the crew topped Alabama and Iowa with a 6:54.184 time before besting Minnesota and Rutgers in the afternoon thanks to a 7:16.927 effort.
The Big Orange 2V4 boat led the way in the varsity four races. The crew of Ella Hill, Kayla Anderson, Alyssa Biernat, Grace Wolfenbarger and Sarah Powell capped off a 7-1 weekend by defeating the Hawkeyes, Golden Knights and Spartans thanks to a 7:22.452 effort. The 1V4 clocked a 7:15.127 time to top Michigan State.
The Lady Vols are off next weekend before returning to action on Friday, April 21, for a two-day regatta at the Lake Wheeler Invitational in Raleigh, North Carolina.
