TENNESSEE WINS FIVE RACES AT THE UVA INVITE

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – Tennessee rowing ended its regular season with five wins at the Virginia Invitational on Saturday, as the 19th-ranked Lady Vols competed against North Carolina and No. 9 Virginia on the Rivanna Reservoir.
The highlight of Saturday was the afternoon session, when the Big Orange swept North Carolina in all five races.
"The team put together solid races out there today," head coach Lisa Glenn said. "Thanks to Virginia for hosting the event and to UVA, UNC and Navy for the good racing. After a couple of days to regroup and refocus academically, we'll get back together to prepare for the conference championship in two weeks."
The Tennessee 1V8 crossed the finish line with a 6:52.6 effort to beat North Carolina's best varsity eight. The 2V8 dominated against the Tar Heels in the afternoon for a first-place finish (7:06.9). In the morning session, the 2V8 put up a strong effort (6:43.3) against Virginia but ultimately finished five seconds behind the Cavaliers' 6:38.0 mark. In their second race of the day, the 3V8 hit the water against the Tar Heels outpacing their boat for a first-place finish (7:18.4).Â
Tennessee's varsity fours kept the momentum going with two wins. The Big Orange 1V4 posted a 7:46.5 time to outpace UNC. The 2V4 was victorious in their final race of the day crossing the finish line at 7:57.1 ahead of the squad from North Carolina.

In the morning session, the Lady Vols went head-to-head with No. 9 Virginia for a series for second-place finishes.Â

Up next, the Lady Vols will head to Austin, Texas, to compete in the Big 12 Championships on May 14.Â
