April 26, 2023 | Men's Tennis
Olaf Pieczkowski has signed an institutional aid agreement with the Tennessee men's tennis team and will join the Vols for the 2024 spring season.
Â
Pieczkowski, from Olsztyn, Poland, holds a career-high ITF junior ranking of No. 13, making him the fifth top-15 ITF junior to sign with the Vols since 2009.
Tennessee's other such signees in that span are JP Smith (No. 6), Tennys Sandgren (No. 9), Rhyne Williams (No. 8) and Shunsuke Mitsui (No. 6).
Â
The Olsztyn, Poland, native holds career-best ATP rankings of No. 693 in singles and No. 724 in doubles. His 13.47 UTR is the third-highest among the nation's freshman in the 2023 class.
Â
"Firstly, we would like to thank Olaf and his family for trusting us in this decision," Tennessee associate head coach James McKie said. "We are very confident we can help him achieve his goals in college and professional tennis. He is a top player and an extremely hard worker. I know our great fans will enjoy watching him compete very soon."
Â
Pieczkowski won a pair of $15K doubles titles in 2022, one coming in Sozopol, Bulgaria, and one in Bytom, Poland.
Â
Pieczkowski, the first Polish player to don the orange and white since Bartosz Sawicki (2014-15), has also made two $15K singles finals recently, both in Monastir, Tunisia, and had the honor of representing Poland on the Davis Cup Team.
Â
Having competed in each of the four junior grand slams, Pieczkowski is the fourth newcomer to sign with the Vols for the upcoming season. He is the second Polish player to sign with the Vols for the 2024 season. Filip Pieczonka (ITF 39), from Gdańsk, Poland, will also don the orange and white next season.
He also joins experienced, returning veterans Johannus Monday, Mitsui, Blaise Bicknell and Angel Diaz.
