Softball Preview: #4/7 Lady Vols Face In-State Foe Tennessee Tech

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Playing its first midweek game of the season, the fourth-ranked Lady Vols are set to battle Tennessee Tech on Wednesday night at Sherri Parker Lee Stadium. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. ET.
Gates will open an hour before first pitch at 5 p.m. Fans who bring two canned food items for donation will receive free admission.

OUR STATE
Since founding the program in 1996, Tennessee softball has run the Volunteer state - amassing a 139-4 record all-time against in-state opponents.
THE TRIUMVIRATE
Tennessee features one of the deepest pitching staffs in the nation - headlined by Ashley Rogers, Payton Gottshall and Karlyn Pickens. As a staff, they hold an NCAA-best 0.61 ERA, have allowed just eight extra- base hits, 10 runs, 13 walks and have totaled 135 strikeouts. The staff WHIP stands at .58.
Rogers and Gottshall lead the way with five wins apiece, while Pickens has three wins.
DOUBLE THE FUN
Tennessee is one of the top teams in the nation when it comes to roping doubles. The Lady Vols average 2.24 doubles per game - ranking second in the nation through the first month of the season. In total doubles, UT has knocked 38 in 17 games which is tied for fourth-most in the country.
The program record for doubles in a season stands at 142 - set in 1996 - the first season in team history.
STREAKING
Tennessee enters Wednesday's midweek matchup against Tennessee Tech on an 11-game win streak following a 5-0 weekend during the Tennessee Classic. During the win streak, the Lady Vols have outscored their opponents 90-2 and are averaging 8.2 runs per game.
UT notched nine consecutive shutouts during the win streak from Feb. 24 - March 5 and it has not allowed an earned run in 59 straight innings and counting.
TWO-TIME FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK
Pickens was tabbed as the SEC Freshman of the Week on Monday for the second consecutive week. Pickens tossed her first-career perfect game against App State on March 4 - joining Monica Abbott and Stacey Jennings as the only freshmen to throw a perfect game in a Lady Vol uniform.
