Kiki Milloy Honored as Tennessee Torchbearer
March 30, 2023 | General, Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee All-American Kiki Milloy added the university's highest student honor to her impressive list of accolades as she was awarded with the Torchbearer award.
"There are not enough words to express how proud we are of Kiki being named a torchbearer, and becoming the first softball student-athlete to receive the most prestigious honor awarded to a Tennessee student," head coach Karen Weekly said. "Since the day she arrived in Knoxville, she has been a leader on our campus, in the community and for our softball program. She leads with character, compassion and integrity. This is the ultimate recognition of Kiki's commitment to excellence in all that she does. We are so happy for her and her family and proudly celebrate with her."
The Torchbearer is the highest student honor conferred by the University of Tennessee. Torchbearers are seniors who have served their alma mater with overall excellence. The Torchbearer is awarded for academic achievement and outstanding commitment to others as demonstrated by the student's various activities and significant contributions to the university and the community.
Students chosen for this award embody the Volunteer spirit, displaying initiative and service in the best interests of both the university and their fellow students. Recognition as a Torchbearer reminds all students that those who bear the torch of enlightenment shadow themselves to give light to others.
The first Torchbearers were awarded in 1931, and Milloy is the 29th student-athlete to receive the honor and the first softball player to earn this recognition.
Tyvi Small – UT's vice chancellor for diversity and engagement – along with Milloy's mother, Claudine, and the entire Tennessee softball team and staff were on hand to surprise the senior outfielder with the honor.
