Karlyn Pickens Named SEC Freshman of the Week

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Following an impressive outing against No. 5 Clemson on Saturday, true freshman Karlyn Pickens has been named the SEC Freshman of the Week.
The right-hander tossed a complete-game shutout against the previously undefeated Tigers, guiding the Lady Vols to a 1-0 win.
Pickens fanned eight batters and held Clemson to its fewest hits of the season (4). She did not allow a walk or an extra base hit. It was Pickens' second win of the season along with her second complete game and second shutout.
On the year, the Weaverville, North Carolina, native sports a 0.75 ERA over 18.2 innings pitched with 18 strikeouts and zero walks.
It is the first freshman of the week award for Tennessee since Kaitlin Parsons received the honor on April 16, 2019.
Tennessee makes its home debut on Friday with the beginning of the Tennessee Classic. The Lady Vols will play host to Appalachian State, Jacksonville State and Belmont.
