December 26, 2023 | Softball
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Kiki Milloy has been named the 2023 Knox News Sportsperson of the Year, adding another remarkable achievement to a growing list of accolades as she enters her final season on Rocky Top.
The 2023 Tennessee softball season was a remarkable year for a program steeped in tradition. UT captured its first SEC regular season championship since 2007 and its first SEC Tournament title since 2011, winning both crowns in the same season for the first time in program history.
Tennessee also secured its first 50-win season and reached the national semifinals at the Women's College World Series for the first time since 2013 – the trip to Oklahoma City was its first since 2015 and its eighth in school history.
Leading the charge for Tennessee's historic season was Milloy.
The senior led all Division I players with 25 home runs on the season – setting a Lady Vols single-season record. A consensus first-team All-American, Milloy hit .406 and set another Tennessee single-season record with 86 runs scored.
The Woodinville, Washington, native knocked in 56 RBIs, slugged .929 – her third single-season school record set in 2023 – and finished with a .554 on-base percentage and an OPS of 1.483. Milloy also stole a career-high 40 bases on the year.
The NCAA statistical champion in home runs also led all of Division I softball in runs per game, scoring 1.41.
Off the field, Milloy became Tennessee's 29th student-athlete and first-ever softball player to earn the university's most prestigious student honor—The Torchbearer Award. She also garnered CSC Academic All-America First Team honors in 2023 – earning academic All-America accolades for the second time in her career.
Adding another Tennessee softball first, she is the first player to be named the Knox News Sportsperson of the Year.
