Vols Complete Day One of Hagedorn Hidden Dual

SAN DIEGO – Tennessee men's tennis competed against members of Arizona and San Diego on the opening day of the Hagedorn Hidden Dual Friday, hosted by the University of San Diego at Skip and Cindy Hogan Tennis Center.
Doubles play was highlighted by Filip Pieczonka and Shunsuke Mitsui's 6-3 win over Arizona's Gustaf Strom and Sasha Rozin. Johannus Monday and Filip Apltauer dropped a close match to Jay Friend and Nick Lagaev (Arizona), 4-6, while Chris Li and James Newton fell to Inaki Cabrera-Bello and Eric Padgham (Arizona), 1-6.
The Vols collected three wins in singles competition. Third-ranked Monday routed Arizona's #87 Jay Friend in 3-6, 6-1, 6-3, fashion, while 66th-ranked Mitsui took down the Wildcats' 92nd-ranked Nick Lagaev in straight sets, serving out the 6-2, 6-3 win. Li posted a three-set triumph over Inaki Cabrera-Bello (Arizona), 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.
Pieczonka dropped a hard-fought match to Arizona's 50th-ranked Gustaf Strom, 6-4, 5-7, 2-6, while Newton lost to Sasha Rozin (Arizona), 1-6, 5-7. Apltauer came up short against San Diego's Neo Niedner 4-6, 4-6.
