Romig Named SEC Defensive Player of the Week
September 19, 2022 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Senior goalkeeper Lindsey Romig was named SEC Defensive Player of the Week, as announced by the league's office on Monday.Â
The recognition comes on the heels of a career night at Florida last Friday in which she logged a career-high nine saves in UT's 2-1 win in its SEC opener. The Gators put 10 shots on goal, five of which came in the final 25 minutes of the match. Romig commanded the defense throughout the game, denying six shots taken from inside the 18-yard box to help UT improve to 1-0 in conference play.Â
The Lady Vols have posted a 5-1 record over the six games in which Romig has been active this season, shutting out four of its last five opponents. She has made 17 saves on the season and holds a save percentage of .810.Â
Romig currently sits at third all-time in the Tennessee record book with a save percentage of .802, and her career goals against average of .940 ranks fourth. She is seventh all-time in career saves with 191 and ties Shae Yanez at third in most career shutouts (21).Â
It is Romig's first SEC weekly honor of this season and her third overall, having previously been named SEC Defensive Player of the Week twice during the 2020-21 season.Â
Tennessee continues SEC play on Thursday, hosting No. 11 Alabama in a 6 p.m. ET contest at Regal Stadium. The game will be streamed on SECN+.
