Four Lady Vols Take Home CoSIDA Academic All-District Honors
May 12, 2022 | Softball, Tennessee Tailored
GAINESVILLE, Fla. -- Lady Vol softball standouts Amanda Ayala, Erin Edmoundson, Kiki Milloy and Ashley Rogers were each named to the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 3 First Team Tuesday afternoon. Tennessee's four honorees tied the most of any team in the SEC and were the most for UT since also having four selections in 2014.
Â
CoSIDA's Academic All-District teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field and in the classroom. District 3 consists of NCAA Division I schools in the states of North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia.
Â
A fifth-year outfielder from Bloomfield, New Jersey, Ayala reels in her second consecutive Academic All-District nod after receiving the honors for the first time last season. The 2021 UT graduate is currently pursuing her master's degree in Sports Psychology & Motor Behavior and touts a 3.68 GPA in grad school. After electing to return for her COVID-19 exempt "super senior" season, Ayala ranks second on the team with a .312 batting average this year and has posted career-best season totals in doubles (12), triples (3), walks (24) and stolen bases (13).
Â
Edmoundson is a first-time CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree in her first season with the Big Orange after joining the program as a graduate transfer last fall. The left-handed pitcher is in her second semester of MBA school, boasting a 3.83 graduate GPA with an entrepreneurship & innovation concentration. She has been a force for Tennessee in the circle this spring, leading the Lady Vol staff with 19 wins and 143 strikeouts in 156.2 innings pitched.
Â
An All-American on the field last spring, Milloy also earns her first career CoSIDA Academic All-District award as a junior with a 3.58 GPA in neuroscience. The center fielder leads UT in nearly every offensive category this season with a .356 average, 1.131 OPS, 64 hits, 51 runs, 12 doubles and 14 homers. She is a two-time member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll and was recognized as an Easton/NFCA All-America Scholar Athlete following the 2021 season.
Â
Rogers rounds out UT's CoSIDA honorees with her second-straight Academic All-District honor. The right-handed pitcher from Athens, Tennessee, became the 16th Lady Vol to earn Academic All-America status last season with second team laurels from the organization. She graduated from Tennessee with a perfect 4.0 GPA in kinesiology in December 2021 and is completing her first semester of grad school this spring, pursuing a master's in biomechanics. Rogers has had a remarkably noteworthy tenure in her time on Rocky Top, ranking top 10 in program history in career wins, earned run average, strikeouts, shutouts and opponent batting average.
Â
Tennessee's four honorees will advance to the 2022 CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot, voted on by CoSIDA members before first-, second- and third-team honorees are announced in June.
