April 02, 2022 | Rowing
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Competing for the third week in a row, Tennessee took on conference foe Alabama in a dual Saturday morning on the Black Warrior River.
Â
The varsity eight paced the Lady Vols, crossing the finish line in 7:15.4 to beat the Crimson Tide by 12 seconds. Madelyn Walsh coxed the lineup of Emma Seawright, Natalia Loram, Kathleen Rice, Jaimie Armitage, Reagan Long, Lindsey Morrissett, Sydney Pardy and Erin Gifford during the race.
Â
The two-time reigning Big 12 Boat of the Week now owns seven wins on the season with its only losses coming against No. 2 Yale and No. 12 Duke. This is the second week in a row the boat has bested a top-20 opponent.
Â
"We are pleased with the consistencies our 1V8 carried into the Tuscaloosa environment, which featured a strong head current and minimal course markings," head coach Lisa Glenn said. "Each week, we continue to gain valuable experience. We look forward to the work we'll do in the next 10 days as we look toward Sarasota and the Big Ten Invitational later this month."
Â
During the second varsity eight race, UT finished second behind a time of 7:34.2, just narrowly missing first by four seconds. The 3V8 boat finished second with a time of 8:12.74, while the 4V8 placed third behind an 8:33.6 mark.
Â
In the varsity four events, as the Lady Vol 1V4 threw down a time of 8:48.8 to place second, while the 2V4's mark of 9:26.3 ranked third.
Â
"Our developing 2V8 and 1V4 boats gained valuable race experience this weekend with some necessary adjustments to personnel," Glenn said. "We are excited to have our full roster in action for the next race outings."
Â
Up next, the Lady Vols will take next weekend off from competition before traveling to Sarasota, Florida, for the Big Ten Invitational on April 15-16.
