Lady Vol 1V8 Bests Sixth-Ranked Virginia, UT Wins Five Races at UVA Invite

EARLYSVILLE, Va. – A perfect weekend for Tennessee's 1V8 boat was highlighted by a top-10 victory against Virginia to cap the Virginia Invitational on Saturday.

In the first session of the day, the 20th-ranked Lady Vols took on No. 6 Virginia. UT's varsity eight, the reigning Big 12 Boat of the Week, defeated the Cavaliers' top boat with a time of 7:01.8. During the second race of the day, the Tennessee 1V8 crossed the finish line in 7:09.1 to beat North Carolina's best varsity eight by 26 seconds.

Madelyn Walsh coxed the lineup of Emma Seawright, Natalia Loram, Kathleen Rice, Jaimie Armitage, Reagan Long, Lindsey Morrissett, Sydney Pardy and Erin Gifford to both victories. Through two regattas this spring, Tennessee's varsity eight boasts three wins and two second-place finishes.

Between its other four boats competing, Tennessee won three more races on the day. The Lady Vol 2V8 (7:27.1) and 3V8 (9:01.3) lineups won their races against the Tar Heels and saw time improvements from their second-place finishes against Virginia in the morning.

UT's varsity four topped North Carolina, notching an 8:48.8 mark to earn its first win of the season.

Up next, the Lady Vols hit the road to take on conference foe Alabama in a head-to-head regatta on Saturday, April 2. The competition will begin at 9 a.m. ET.
