Men’s Tennis Central: #4 Tennessee at #25 Texas A&M

BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – Returning to the Lone Star State for a second time this season, the No. 4 Tennessee men's tennis team is geared up to face 25^th-ranked Texas A&M Friday. First serve is set for 7 p.m. ET.

The Vols will face the Aggies for a second time this dual season, having earned a 4-0 sweep of Texas A&M at the ITA Indoor National Championships in Seattle.

Tennessee's comeback Sunday fell just short in a 4-2 loss to then-eighth-ranked Georgia.

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M
Friday serves as the 20^th all-time meeting between the two programs, with Texas A&M (14-8, 3-1 SEC) holding a 12-7 advantage in the series that dates to 1974. The Vols (14-5 2-3 SEC) have taken the previous two meetings, a pair of 4-0 sweeps. A win Friday would give Tennessee its eighth ranked victory of the dual season. MILESTONE IN SIGHT FOR WOODRUFF
A win Friday would give Tennessee head coach Chris Woodruff career coaching win No. 100 since taking the helm at his alma mater prior the start of the 2017-18 season. Along with becoming the fifth UT men's tennis coach to reach 100 career coaching victories with the program, Woodruff would also become the second-fastest of those five to reach the century mark, doing so in 128 matches should the Vols defeat Texas A&M. Sam Winterbotham (2007-17) reached 100 coaching victories in 121 matches.

CHASING HISTORY
In October, graduate student Adam Walton earned his 100th career singles win to become the 11th-ever Vol to reach the century mark in career singles triumphs. Walton now stands eight doubles victories away from 100. Reaching this feat would make him just the sixth Vol in program history to accrue 100 career doubles and 100 career singles wins.

DUBS POINT
Through 19 matches this dual season, Tennessee is 11-1 when taking the doubles point. The Aussie duo of Adam Walton and Pat Harper are 9-4 in doubles dual matches this year.

ROAD VOLS
Tennessee holds a 3-1 record in true road matches this season, logging wins over then-fifth-ranked TCU, 4-3 on the road, at Mississippi State, 5-2 and at Ole Miss, 6-1.

COLLEGE STATION FACTS
• The city's name is tied to Texas A&M University, as by 1877 the isolated, growing community was centered around the campus and the Post Office designated the area as "College Station," based on the name of the train stop adjacent to the growing community.

• In 2020, The Texas A&M University System Board of Regents passed a resolution that declared Bryan and College Station to be the joint home of Texas A&M. Before this, College Station solely held that designation.
