Vols Finish Ninth at National Invitational Tournament

TUCSON, Ariz. – The 13th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team wrapped up its third tournament of the spring Saturday, finishing in ninth place at the National Invitational Tournament.

The Vols shot a three-round total of 13-under 851.

Registering his fourth top-20 finish of the season, Spencer Cross led the way for the Vols, shooting a three-round total of 6-under and tying for 16th place. Cross shot two sub-70 rounds in Arizona—67 during round one and 68 during round three. He now has 12 rounds of par better this season and a team-best 69.73 stroke average.

Bryce Lewis came in just two strokes behind Cross, shooting 4-under and finishing tied for 23rd place. Lewis shot par or better during all three rounds—securing his third straight top-25 finish.

After posting identical scores in all three rounds, Tyler Johnson and Hunter Wolcott both finished 2-over for the weekend and tied for 61st place. The duo each shot two rounds par or better, but carded scores of 3-over  during Saturday's final round.

Jake Hall gave Tennessee its final counting round on Saturday, shooting 1-under for the day. Hall shot par or better during the final two rounds, but was unable to overcome a 6-over score in round one. He finished 5-over and tied for 74th place.

Competing as an individual, freshman Laurent Desmarchais shot 2-under for the weekend and finished tied for 39th. Desmarchais shot a 4-under 68 during round three—his best single round as a Vol.

Tennessee has a quick turnaround and is in action in just eight days, making the trip down to Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida, to compete in the Hayt Invitational.
