Men’s Golf Central: National Invitational Tournament

The 13th-ranked Tennessee men's golf team heads west for a second straight tournament this weekend, competing in the National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Arizona at the Omni Tucson National's Catalina Course.
The Vols are set to play three total rounds in Arizona—teeing off the weekend with 36 holes on Friday and then a final 18-hole round on Saturday.
According to Golfweek's college rankings, seven of the 15 participating teams in the National Invitational Tournament are ranked inside the top 25—including six in the top 15.
This weekend marks Tennessee's third tournament of the spring. The Vols are coming off a sixth-place finish at the Cabo Collegiate where they shot 21-under as a team and Bryce Lewis shot 10-under and finished tied for seventh place. Jake Hall tied for 29th place (-4), while Tyler Johnson tied for 31st (-3).
Tennessee has never previously competed in the Arizona National Intercollegiate Tournament which is in its 19th year, but is less than a year removed from last competing in the state of Arizona. The 2021 NCAA Championships were held at Grayhawk Golf Club in Scottsdale, Arizona, roughly two hours away from Omni Tucson National.
THE VOLS' LINEUP
Spencer Cross
Tennessee's leader in overall stroke average this season with a 69.67 mark, Cross has carded 10 rounds of par or better this season and recorded two top-10 finishes. All 12 of Cross' rounds as a member of the Vols' lineup have counted this season.
Bryce Lewis
Lewis has been Tennessee's top finisher at two straight tournaments, most recently shooting 10-under and finishing tied for seventh place at the Cabo Collegiate. Lewis is the Vols' leader in spring stroke average with a 67.17 mark and has carded six straight sub-70 rounds.
Tyler Johnson
Johnson has shot 10 of 12 rounds par or better this season with a pair of top-10 finishes. The redshirt senior has finished tied for 31st in back-to-back tournaments and has posted a stroke average of 69.83 this spring.
Hunter Wolcott
Wolcott joins Tennessee's lineup for the second straight tournament. The two-time All-SEC selection has 21 career top-25 finishes.
Jake Hall
In 18 total rounds as a member of Tennessee's lineup or competing as an individual, Hall has shot par or better 15 times. The Knoxville native is coming off being Tennessee's second-highest finisher at the Cabo Collegiate, where he shot 4-under and finished tied for 29th place. Hall has four top-30 finishes this season and a stroke average of 69.83 this spring.
THE VOLS' INDIVIDUAL
Laurent Desmarchais
The Longueuil, Quebec, native has competed in two tournaments as a Vol, most recently as a member of Tennessee's lineup at the Puerto Rico Classic last month. Desmarchais shot 4-under at the tournament, finishing tied for 50th place.
