Women’s Tennis Central: #21 Tennessee vs. #6 NC State

KNOXVILLE – Ready for the home opener, the 21st-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team faces its first top-10 opponent of the season as the Lady Volunteers host No. 6 NC State Friday, Feb. 4, at noon at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
After being on the road for the first three weekends of competition this season, the Lady Vols make their home debut after an undefeated 2021 campaign at home. Tennessee (3-1) was victorious in 11 home matches, only the third time in program history with 11 wins at home, it was also the fourth time in program history the Lady Vols did not lose at home.
Parking is located in SC40 at the Kingston Pike Building, there will be a free shuttle to take fans to and from the courts. Additional information concerning parking is available here. There will also be free Chick-fil-A and pizza available to fans (while supplies last).

LAST TIME OUT
The Big Orange fell in the ITA Kickoff Weekend final, 0-4, against Ohio State at the Ty Tucker Tennis Center in Columbus, Ohio. The Lady Vols had momentum on courts 4, 5 and 6, but were unable to get a point before the Buckeyes clinched.
After the match, head coach Alison Ojeda discussed how the adversity of the match showed her and associate head coach Jarryd Chaplin exactly what they needed to work on with their group during the week. A full video with comments from coach Ojeda can be found here.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
No. 6 NC State (5-0) is coming off a strong weekend at ITA Kickoff Weekend, which the Wolfpack hosted. They qualified for ITA Indoor Nationals, defeating Penn State and Wake Forest, 4-0. NC State currently owns two wins over top-25 opponents as it bested No. 23 Princeton and No. 10 Ohio State, 4-3. While all of Tennessee's matches have been on the road, the Wolfpack have played only at home.
NC State has three ranked singles and one ranked doubles pair. All three singles find themselves in the top 25 as Jaeda Daniel tops the list at No. 8. Alana Smith is ranked No. 24 while and Abigail Rencheli is slotted at No. 25. In doubles, Daniel/Smith are the 21st-ranked pairing.
THE SERIES
It is the eighth all-time meeting between Tennessee and NC State, the Lady Vols lead the all-time series, 5-2. It is the Wolfpack's first trip to Knoxville since March 5, 1986 when the Lady Vols won, 6-3. That match was the only meeting between the two sides on Rocky Top.
The last matchup came last season in Raleigh as NC State won 6-1 on Feb. 13.

Tennessee is riding an 18-match home winning streak that spans all the way back to April 12, 2019 when UT downed Kentucky, 4-1.

Tennessee will be off for 15 days, but will continue its homestand as the Lady Vols host Indiana at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 19, at Goodfriend Tennis Center.
The match against Indiana will be the first of three that weekend as UT also hosts Bellarmine Sunday, Feb. 20, for a doubleheader beginning at 11 a.m.
