Track Central: Virginia Tech Challenge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – With one week left before the SEC Indoor Championships, the Tennessee track & field team heads back to Blacksburg, Virginia, for the Virginia Tech Challenge at Rector Field House.
The meet runs Friday and Saturday, February 18 and 19.
MEET INFO
The meet begins Friday at 2 p.m. ET with the men's unseeded pole vault and concludes Saturday at 3:25 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay.
In-progress results will be provided by Flash Results.
Tennessee is sending 20 student-athletes to Blacksburg to compete against 19 other schools, including conference foe Kentucky and Duke, NC State, North Carolina, Pitt, Virginia and hosts Virginia Tech from the ACC. Maryland from the Big Ten will also send athletes to the Virginia Tech Challenge.

LAST TIME OUT
The Vols and Lady Vols broke three freshman records last weekend between the Tyson Invite and Music City Challenge. At Tyson, Favour Ashe went 6.52 seconds in the men's 60-meter dash to take down Leonard Scott's previous rookie record of 6.56 set in 1999.
In Nashville for the Music City Challenge, Rachel Sutliff ran in the women's 5,000-meter and crossed the line in 16:45.44. Her time shattered the old freshman record of 16:55.38 set by Morgan Thompson in 1991.
The final freshman mark to fall last weekend came in the 3,000m. Kayla Gholar went 9:34.61 to topple Brittany Sheffey's time of 9:38.76 she set in 2008.
In addition to the three freshman records, Latavia Maines threw a distance of 18.00m (59-0.75) to break her indoor school record in women's shot put.

UP NEXT
Tennessee's indoor postseason begins next week at the 2022 SEC Indoor Championships in Bryan-College Station, Texas. The conference meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, Feb. 25-26 at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.
