Alex Kay and Joe Hoots Finish 1-2 for Tennessee in 600-Meter, Vols & Lady Vols Set 32 Personal Bests

BLACKSBURG, Va. – Alex Kay and Joe Hoots turned in a 1-2 finish for the Vols in the men's 600-meter run Friday at the Hokie Invitational, while 27 Tennessee athletes combined for 32 personal bests.
Kay took home the event title with a time of 1:18.41, while Hoots crossed the line second at 1:18.63. Both times set personal bests for the Tennessee duo. Also running in the men's 600m was newcomer Justin Swann. He placed sixth in the event in personal-best fashion, finishing with a time of 1:20.22.
TENNESSEE MILE
The Tennessee distance crew put on a show Friday as eight men and women combined to set personal bests in the mile. Led by Katie Thronson's 4:41.91, five Lady Vols ran a best time including, Olivia Janke (4:48.49), Brooke Dixon (4:51.49), Rachel Sutliff (5:00.92) and Ainsley Cooper (5:18.11).
Thronson's time is the seventh-fastest indoor mile in Lady Vol history.
On the men's side, Tim Thacker turned in a 4:05.00 and was followed by Matthew McMillan at 4:22.89 and Fuji Anday at 4:19.50.
MIDDLE DISTANCE FLEXING
In addition to Kay and Hoots finishing 1-2 in the men's 600, the women's 600 crew of Allison Rand, Maia Stewart and Emily Knight put together career-best performances as well. Rand finished with a PR of 1:32.70, while Stewart crossed the finish line in 1:33.15. Knight rounded out the trio of personal bests with a time of 1:36.07.
MULTIS OPEN UP
Tennessee's combined events group opened up Friday at Rector Field House in both the men's heptathlon and women's pentathlon.
Caroline Lewis represented the Lady Vols and placed seventh with a career-best 3,781 points.
Through four events of the men's heptathlon at Virginia Tech, Yariel Soto stands fourth with a team-leading 3,056 points. Ethan Robinson (2,904) and Peyton Davis (2,904) are tied for sixth at the meet, with three events remaining for Saturday.
