AUSTIN, Texas — Tennessee softball standout Ashley Rogers has been named Second Team Academic All-America by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the organization announced Thursday afternoon.
The pitcher from Athens, Tennessee, had a stellar junior campaign for the Lady Vols in 2021 and has been just as dominant in the classroom. Through three years on Rocky Top, she maintains a perfect 4.0 grade-point average in kinesiology (pre-med track) and has been named to the Spring SEC Academic Honor Roll each of the past three seasons.
Rogers was one the top pitchers in the nation this past spring, leading the Southeastern Conference with a 1.32 ERA while ranking second in the league with 296 strikeouts, 26 wins and eight shutouts. A consistent presence for the Big Orange, she also topped the SEC leaderboard with 217.1 innings pitched and a .132 opposing batting average.
The imposing right-hander raked in postseason honors, most notably receiving second team All-America distinction from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA). Rogers was also tabbed to the NFCA Southeast All-Region First Team and All-SEC First Team.
"We are so proud of Ashley for her outstanding achievement," head coach Karen Weekly said. "She has maintained a perfect 4.0 in a pre-med curriculum while also performing at the highest level on the softball field. It is a testament to her discipline, dedication and perseverance. We are committed to creating an environment that supports academic excellence in any degree program our players choose, and Ashley continues a long tradition of Lady Vol softball Academic All-Americans."
Rogers is the 16th Lady Vol to earn Academic All-America honors in program history and the first UT pitcher to be recognized since Erin Gabriel in 2015. Tennessee softball has combined for 27 total Academic All-America awards since 1997.
