No. 14 UT To Compete At NCAA Championships Friday

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Fourteenth-ranked Tennessee is set to compete in the 2021 NCAA Rowing Championships Friday-Sunday (May 28-30) at Nathan Benderson Park in Sarasota, Fla. Â
Competition will begin with heats on Friday at 9 a.m. There will be four heats in each of the 1V8, 2V8 and 1V4 divisions, with the top two boats from each heat advancing to the semifinals on Saturday. Crews finishing outside the top two in their respective heats will race in a repechage to determine the final four finalists in each division. Â
Tennessee's 1V8, which is seeded 16th, will race in the first heat of the day at 9 a.m. on Friday. In the 2V8, UT is seeded 13th and will race in the fourth heat at 10:24 a.m. The Lady Vols' 15th-seeded 1V4 will round out the morning, racing in the second heat at 10:48 a.m.Â
On Saturday, the Division I semifinals will begin at 8:12 a.m. with the 1V8s, followed by the 2V8s and 1V4s. The finals will take place on Sunday with the first races beginning at 8:12 a.m. The first Division I Grand Final will be the fours at 10 a.m., and the 1V8 Grand Final will be the final race of the competition at 10:48 a.m.Â
Tennessee is making its ninth overall and fifth full-team appearance at the NCAA Championships. It will mark the Lady Vols' first NCAA appearance since 2010 when the team finished 16th. Three years earlier, the Big Orange managed a program-best ninth-place finish while hosting the national championships at Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn.
UT received an at-large bid to the 2021 NCAA Championships after finishing third in the Big 12 Championship in Austin, Texas, on May 14. The other 11 schools to receive at-large bids are Alabama, Brown, California, Duke, Ohio State, Princeton, Rutgers, Stanford, Syracuse, Washington State and Wisconsin.
