Women’s Golf Central: Bardwell Primed for NCAA Championship

SCOTTSDALE, Az. – Tennessee junior Mikayla Bardwell will represent the Lady Vols as an individual at the NCAA Championship in Scottsdale, Arizona, this weekend.
Bardwell is the sixth golfer in Lady Vol program history to advance to the NCAA Championship as an individual.
The Championship, hosted by Arizona State, consists of 24 teams and 12 individual competitors. There will be 54 holes of stroke play from Friday-Sunday. At the conclusion of Sunday's round, the top-15 teams and nine individuals not on those teams will advance to Monday's final round of stroke play. The individual stroke play champion will be crowned following the fourth round on Monday and the top eight teams will advance to match play on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Bardwell will tee off round one on Friday at 10:25 a.m. ET.
MIKAYLA'S SEASON IN REVIEW
Bardwell was responsible for a team-best season stroke average of 73.63 this year. She logged counting scores in 27 of her 30 rounds played and scored par or better in 10 of those 30 rounds.
The junior from Lewisville, Texas, has four top-seven finishes and has scored in the 60s on four occasions this season.
Early in the 2020-21 campaign, Bardwell posted three consecutive top-seven finishes.
In October at the second tournament of the season, she tied for third at The Ally at Old Waverly in Starkville, Mississippi, with a three-day score of -6 (210), which included a second round score of 64 (-8) that tied the lowest single round score in program history.
Bardwell wrapped up fall competition by claiming the individual title share at the Liz Murphey Fall Collegiate Classic in Athens, Georgia. Her first career collegiate win saw her shoot 3-under, 213, through 54 holes.
At the Heroes Ladies Intercollegiate in Sarasota, Florida, to open the spring season, Bardwell finished 3-under, 213, and tied for 7th place. She carded a 67 (-5) on the tournament's final day.
Bardwell tied for the third-most birdies (15) among all participants at the SEC Championship in Birmingham, Alabama, in April for a 54-hole score of +1 (217).
Last week, at the NCAA Louisville Regional, Bardwell willed her way to a top-three individual finish, using a monster third round performance of 6-under, 66, to finish tied for second at -3 (213). Her third round, which included two eagles, marked the second-lowest single round score of her career and saw her move up 26 spots on the leaderboard during the final 18 holes.

Grayhawk's Raptor course, where the Championship will be held, was ranked No. 12 on Golfweek's 2021 list of best public-access courses in the state of Arizona.
The course features raised greens, deep bunkers and is built along a rolling desert landscape.
