Bardwell Wraps Up First Round of NCAA Championship
May 21, 2021 | Women's Golf
SCOTTSDALE, Az. – Tennessee's Mikayla Bardwell wrapped up round one of the NCAA Championship on Friday, after carding a score of 76 (+4) to open the tournament.
"I played alright today, but just didn't get any birdie putts to drop," Bardwell said. "I didn't hit very many fairways, so that made holding the greens from the rough tough.
"For tomorrow, if I can hit some more fairways, I'll have a lot of shorter irons and wedges in and get some putts to drop. We will be in great shape."
The junior from Lewisville, Texas, finished the day tied for 74th and stood at +3 at the turn.
In the back nine, Bardwell held steady by posting eight pars with just one bogey, coming on hole 16, for a score of 1-over in the final nine holes of the day.
Despite going without a birdie through the opening 18 holes on Friday, Bardwell had a sound performance overall and will look to rebound by getting birdie putts to drop as the Championship rolls on Saturday.
Bardwell will tee off round two from the Grayhawk Golf Club at 3:25 p.m. ET on Saturday. She is paired with Christin Eisenbeiss of North Florida and Anna Zanusso of Denver, with the three scheduled to tee off from hole 10.
In the team standings, Texas leads the field at 1-over (289) through one round. Oregon (+2) and Stanford (+3) round out the top three following Friday's action.
