Vols Land UT-Arlington Transfer Diaz, Round out 2021 Signing Class

The No. 3 Tennessee men's tennis team has announced the signing of UT-Arlington transfer, Angel Diaz.
Diaz, a two-year letterman at UT-Arlington will arrive in Knoxville with three years of eligibility remaining and will enroll in time for the Fall semester.
"Angel is a worker," Associate Head Coach James McKie said. "He's blue collar, very competitive and will bring a ton of energy to our team. He also keeps the ball in play and loves the game of tennis. He will fit right into the culture we've built in this program."
The Manabi, Ecuador native finished the 2021 dual season with a 7-7 record, playing primarily at the No. 1 position for the Mavericks.
This season, he earned a career-high ITA singles ranking of No. 84—the highest mark for a Maverick since 2018—and was named First Team All-Sun Belt in singles play.
His season was highlighted by a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Texas' Leighton Allen at the ITA Texas Regional on Oct. 23.
As a junior player Diaz earned a high ITF Junior Ranking of 101 and a career-high UTR of 12.93.
Diaz will join the trio of incoming freshmen Louis Cloud, Conor Gannon and Shunsuke Mitsui.
