KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — The Tennessee track & field program will conclude the 2021 outdoor regular season on its home track Saturday, hosting the Tennessee Challenge at Tom Black Track. 61 squad members are set to compete in 29 events throughout the one-day competition.
Due to university COVID-19 guidelines and protocols, attendance for the Tennessee Challenge will be limited to guests on the Tennessee student-athlete pass list.

The Big Orange will host 10 other schools at the meet, including six in-state institutions. Participating teams include Tennessee, Auburn, Belmont, Carson-Newman, Clemson, Lipscomb, Louisville, MTSU, Tennessee Tech, UT-Martin and Virginia Tech.

The meet will begin at 11 a.m. as Tennessee presents special awards and recognizes its 15 seniors: Max Barbour, Nick Brey, Saqukine Cameron, Ayesha Champagnie, Nayoka Clunis, Alexis Duncan, Daniel Igbokwe, Joseph Maxwell, Maia McCoy, Jah-Nhai Perinchief, Kiara Rhodes, Abigail Smith, Darryl Sullivan, Domonique Turner and Steele Wasik.

Competition gets underway at 11:30 with the women's long jump, men's javelin, men's shot put and men's pole vault. Running events on the track will start at noon with the men's steeplechase and conclude at approximately 3:25 p.m. with the women's 4x400-meter relay.

LAST TIME OUT: UT sent 18 athletes to Louisville for the Clark Wood Open last weekend and left the competition claiming four meet records. Carey McLeod broke Tennessee's long-standing school record in the long jump with his leap of 8.21 meters (26-11.25), while senior Darryl Sullivan had an NCAA Division I-leading clearance of 2.27 meters (7-5.25) in the high jump.

Making his UT debut at the meet, grad student Jah-Nhai Perinchief had the top showing in the triple jump as he cleared 16.04 meters (52-7.5), setting a meet record and ranking as the No. 7 performer on UT's all-time list. Redshirt junior Alexis Duncan clocked a fifth consecutive season-best time in the 100-meter hurdles, claiming a meet record with her performance of 13.26 seconds.

RANKINGS UPDATE: In the most recent installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) track & field rating index, the men of Tennessee rose two spots to No. 11 in the nation. The Lady Vols checked in at No. 38 on the women's side.

NCAA TOP-25 MARKS: With one meet left before postseason competition, the Tennessee track & field program currently owns 16 marks that rank inside the top-25 on the Division I outdoor list.
