Vols Fall in SEC Match Play Quarterfinals
April 24, 2021 | Men's Golf
SEA ISLAND, Ga. – The Tennessee men's golf team concluded play at the SEC Championships Saturday, falling in the match play quarterfinals to Vanderbilt, 4-1.
Â
"Match play comes down to the slimmest of margins and we were on the wrong side of that margin today," head coach Brennan Webb said. "Despite losing the first two matches, all of the other three got to 18 tee before the match was decided but unfortunately we were not able to close out all three."
Â
Bryce Lewis gave the Vols their lone victory over the Commodores, defeating Cole Sherwood by a one hole margin.
Â
Spencer Cross and Hunter Wolcott's matchups both came down to the wire, but both fell by a hole to their opponents.
Â
Rhys Nevin and Brayden Garrison fell to Harrison Ott and Reid Davenport, respectively. Ott was three holes up on Nevin with two to play, while Davenport was two up on Garrison with one to play.
Â
The Vols will now begin preparations for NCAA competition. The NCAA Selection Show is set for May 5 at 2 p.m. ET and will air on Golf Channel. NCAA Regionals are scheduled to take place from May 17 through May 19.
