April 14, 2021 | Women's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee senior Tenika McGiffin was named the SEC Player of the week, the conference announced on Wednesday.
The Brisbane, Australia product was essential to UT's domination over No. 17-ranked Auburn and No. 40-ranked Alabama over the weekend.
"Tenika is a very hard worker and someone who pays great attention to details," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "She's developed over her time at Tennessee and will continue to grow every time she's on the court. She's become a fierce competitor and deserves all the success that comes her way."
McGiffin earned a ranked doubles win as well as a pair of solo wins over the weekend on Rocky Top.
Against No. 17-ranked Auburn, McGiffin earned a 6-1, 6-2 win over Adeline Flach on court five to score UT's first singles point. In doubles play, the senior and freshman Eleonora Molinaro were ahead of Georgia Axon and Flach 6-5 on court one when the doubles point was clinched.
McGiffin and Molinaro earned a 6-4 win over No. 49-ranked Moka Ito and Loudmilla Bencheikh on court one to clinch the all-important doubles point. She was then dominant over Anne Marie Hiser on court five, beating the UA athlete 6-1, 6-0 to open singles scoring in the dual match.
McGiffin closes the regular season with a perfect 11-0 solo dual match record at home and holds a 13-4 dual-match record. Against SEC opponents, she holds an 8-3 record in dual-match play.
