Vols Finish Ninth at Tiger Invitational
March 17, 2021 | Men's Golf
OPELIKA, Ala. – The Tennessee men's golf team wrapped up play at the Tiger Invitational Wednesday, finishing in ninth place.
Spencer Cross and Hunter Wolcott both finished in the top 20 for the Vols, who shot 1-under 863 for the weekend as a team.
The tournament was heavily affected by weather conditions, as play was suspended or delayed several times throughout the week. After completing the majority of the third round on Tuesday, teams wrapped up play on Wednesday afternoon. Each member of Tennessee's lineup had just three or four holes left to complete entering Wednesday.
For the second time this spring, Cross was Tennessee's highest finisher. The senior tied for 13th place and shot 4-under for the week—carding all three rounds par or better.
As Tennessee's second-best performer, Wolcott registered his fourth top-20 finish of the season. The Burns, Tennessee native shot 3-under and tied for 20th place.
Competing as an individual, Brayden Garrison recorded his highest finish since Tennessee's first tournament of the fall, tying for 30th place while shooting even par for the week.
Just behind Garrison in 36th place was Rhys Nevin, who shot 2-over and carded two rounds par or better during the tournament.
Bryce Lewis gave Tennessee its final counting round on Wednesday, shooting a 1-over during the final round. Lewis shot 5-over in total for the week and finished in a tie for 56th place. Jake Hall tied for 76th place, shooting 10-over for the week.
Tennessee returns to action in a little under two weeks at the Old Waverly Collegiate Championship in West Point, Mississippi. The tournament is hosted by Mississippi State and runs from March 26 to March 28.
