
Monday Claims Fifth Straight SEC Freshman of the Week Award

For the fifth consecutive week Tennessee men's tennis freshman Johannus Monday has been named the SEC's Freshman of the Week the conference announced Wednesday.
Monday helped the Vols secure the doubles point in their win over Charlotte last Wednesday and clinched match point in the win over No. 12 Georgia on Friday.
In Wednesday's match against Charlotte, Monday and doubles partner Martim Prata clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 victory over Charlotte's Olle Wallin and Ignasi de Rueda at the No. 1 position.
In Friday's match against Georgia, the duo was up 3-2 in a tiebreak with the Bulldogs Philip Henning and Billy Rowe when the doubles point was clinched.
In the same match, Monday earned his fifth win over a ranked opponent, knocking off the 18th-ranked Henning in three sets, 2-6, 6-4, 6-0 to clinch match point for UT to open SEC play.
Down, 2-6, 4-4, Monday reeled off wins in eight consecutive games to clinch his match and give UT just its fifth win in Athens since 1990.
Monday is now 5-1 against ranked opponents during dual play and holds ledgers of 10-3 in both singles and doubles during the dual season.
Monday and the third-ranked Vols are back in action this weekend with home contests against Mississippi State on Friday and Ole Miss on Sunday. Both matches are set to start at 1 p.m. ET from Barksdale Stadium.
