Kuczer Extends Winning Streak, Lady Vols Fall to NC State
February 13, 2021 | Women's Tennis
RALEIGH, N.C. – Saturday afternoon saw the No. 21-ranked Tennessee women's tennis team fall to No. 12-ranked NC State 6-1 in Raleigh, North Carolina.
Â
"We knew going into this match that we were going to compete against a very well coached, disciplined and powerful team; and that is exactly what we saw," head coach Alison Ojeda said. "We played a lot of very good points, but they won a few more of them than we did. I'm proud of the progress our team is making and I'm looking forward to Thursday's match up vs Memphis and ETSU before heading into SEC play at Georgia."
NC State (5-1) opened scoring by taking the doubles point in a split decision. The Wolfpack opened play with a win on court one, UT (5-2) forced a rubber match with a win on court three. NC State took the point shortly after by taking court two.Â
Â
The duo of sophomore Carly Briggs and junior Rebeka Mertena picked up the lone doubles win of the day over Amelia Rajecki and Lana Mavor 6-3 on court three.Â
Â
NC State went on to win five-straight singles matches to take a 6-0 advantage.
Â
On court six, junior Daria Kuczer picked up UT's lone singles victory to close scoring at 6-1. The junior defeated Rajecki 6-7 (2-7), 7-5, 1-0 (13-11). She maintains her perfect dual match singles record of 6-0 this season, picking up her season-long sixth-straight win dating back to Jan. 15.Â
Â
Up next, the Lady Vols close out their non-conference schedule with a doubleheader Memphis and ETSUÂ on Thursday. UT faces Memphis at 11 a.m. ET and ETSU at 3 p.m. ET.Â
