October 27, 2021 | Soccer
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — University of Tennessee senior Wrenne French has been named to the 2021 SEC Soccer Community Service Team, the league office announced Tuesday afternoon. The Community Service Team looks to highlight athletes from each respective institution who give back to their community in superior service efforts.
Â
A member of the Tennessee soccer program since 2017, French has logged more than 60 hours of community service during her time on Rocky Top. She has volunteered her time with several local organizations, including the Love Kitchen and Vols Help. French's extensive list of service projects also includes working with the 2nd & 7 Foundation and Read Across America —both organizations aimed at promoting literacy to elementary-aged children.
Â
Additionally, French was a member of the 2020-21 VOLeaders Academy, an organization developed to cultivate positive student-athlete leaders through sport to create positive social change. With VOLeaders, French traveled to Belize, volunteering with the YMCA of Belize, the University of Belmopan, Hearts of Christ Children's Ministry, and the National Football Association.Â
Â
The Franklin, Tenn., native also organized the Food4ALL student-athlete takeover at the UT culinary institute this semester. As the lead on the project, she recruited a group of 20 student-athletes to help re-purpose food from campus dining halls as meals for those in our community who are food insecure. In total, that group made over 400 meals in one day.Â
