Vols Announce 2020 Fall Slate
September 18, 2020 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's tennis team will be back on court for the first time since the conclusion of the COVID-19 shortened 2019-20 season, with three Fall tournaments.
Per COVID-19 guidelines each event will take place as SEC-only events, with three schools playing host each weekend.
Each weekend the Vols will play a set of doubles and singles matches against athletes from the other participating schools.
The Big Orange will open their Fall slate at the Gamecock Fall Invitational in Columbia, South Carolina from Oct. 2 through Oct. 4.
After a three-week break, UT will hit the road again to take part in the Bulldog Challenge hosted by Mississippi State in Starkville, Mississippi, Oct. 23 through Oct. 25.
Tennessee rounds out its Fall schedule when it hosts the Tennessee Invitational, Nov. 6 through Nov. 8.
The 2020-21 Vols roster features primary returners in Adam Walton, Luca Wiedenmann and Martim Prata.
Walton, who played primarily at the No. 1 position in singles is coming off a career-best winning percentage with a 26-5 (.839) mark in singles action for the academic year and a 12-1 record in dual matches, while taking down five ranked opponents.
Walton also earned a ranking as high as 13th in the ITA National Rankings in the midst of his career-long 10-match win streak to begin dual play last season.
Wiedenmann was also stellar in singles action for the Vols, notching a 20-6 mark overall and a 13-3 ledger in dual matches before the season was halted.
Entering his final campaign on Rocky Top, Wiedenmann is just one singles win away from cracking into the top-20 for career singles triumphs in program history.
Prata was dominant in singles play before the shutdown as well, boasting a 12-2 dual match record, knocking off two ranked opponents of his own.
Tennessee's roster also welcomes in five newcomers for 2020-21 with freshmen, Johannus Monday, Josh Raab, Coy Simon and Trey Stinchcomb, along with graduate transfer Joel Gamerov.
Head man Chris Woodruff enters his fourth season at the helm of the Vols looking to continue the programs recent success.
