Nationally-Televised Opener Highlights Vols’ Fall Golf Schedule
September 01, 2020 | Men's Golf
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Just over a month from the revised start date to the season, Tennessee men's golf coach Brennan Webb announced the Vols' fall schedule on Tuesday.
Last week, the SEC announced guidelines for fall golf competition – stating that play would begin no earlier than Oct. 1, limiting each school to three fall events and stipulating that tournaments would only include SEC schools or non-conference teams from the school's geographic region.
"Knowing how much work our conference and university leaders put in to give us this opportunity has shown once again that 'it just means more'," Webb said. "Our entire team is extremely thankful and we can't wait to get started at the Blessings Collegiate on the Golf Channel in October."
The Vols will tee off the fall season from Oct. 5-7 at the inaugural Blessings Collegiate Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas. The 54-hole stroke play event – which is set to feature all 14 men's and women's SEC programs – will receive live coverage on the Golf Channel all three days. It marks the first televised event for the 2020-21 college golf season.
Following the opening of the fall in Fayetteville, Tennessee is then set to compete in the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate Invitational in Franklin, Tennessee from Oct. 25-27.
The tournament is scheduled to be contested at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, where the Vols competed in the Mason Rudolph Collegiate during the 2018-19 season – finishing in third place out of 17 teams.
The Vols are scheduled to close out the fall from Nov. 9-10 at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. The tournament will be contested at the Old Overton Club.
In Webb's second season leading the Vols' program in 2019-20, Tennessee finished inside the top 25 for the first time since 2009 and captured two team titles during a season that was cut short due to the COVID-19 global health crisis.
In two seasons under the direction of Webb, the Vols have captured five team titles, including one to close out the abbreviated 2019-20 season in March at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic.
