June 17, 2020 | Men's Tennis
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee men's tennis head coach Chris Woodruff has announced the transfer addition of Joel Gamerov.
Gamerov, who spent the past four seasons at San Diego, arrives on Rocky Top as a graduate transfer with one year of eligibility remaining. The 2019 All-American will join the Vols for the 2020-21 season.
"We are very excited to welcome Joel to our Tennessee family," Woodruff said. "Joel was a 2019 All-American and has four years of collegiate experience under his belt. He has played in the NCAA Tournament and will have an immediate impact on our team."
The Örebro, Sweden native was a perfect 10-0 in singles duel match play in 2020 before the cancelation of the season due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The addition of Gamerov strengthens an already talented Tennessee roster that returns four players who won 10-plus singles duel matches a year ago.
In addition to earning All-America honors in 2019, Gamerov and his doubles partner became the first pairing in USD history to win two NCAA Tournament matches and reach the NCAA Tournament quarterfinals.
During his four seasons at San Diego, Gamerov played at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 singles, amassing a 72-33 record in singles, while going 58-35 in doubles. He was twice named All-WCC first team in doubles (2018, 2019) and was a two-time All-WCC honorable mention award winner in singles (2018, 2019).
