May 27, 2020 | Softball
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Recently graduated outfielder Tianna Batts was named to the 2020 SEC Softball Community Service Team on Wednesday.
Â
The SEC names a community service team for each of its 21-league sponsored sports, looking to highlight an athlete from each school who gives back to their community through superior service efforts.
Â
Batts, who completed a respectable career appearing in 129 games, culminated her time with the Lady Vols in May earning a degree in Sports Management and finishing with a 3.33 GPA.
Â
The Taylorsville, N.C., native accumulated more than half of her 111.5 service hours this past season. She has focused extensively on tutoring and working with elementary-age students. Batts has read to children in the Knoxville community, taught cursive to the elementary students, and discussed the importance of safety and rules. She has also assisted with P.E. classes and talked about the importance of physical activity.
Â
While the team visited Puerto Vallarta, Mexico for a tournament, Batts, who speaks Spanish, and her teammates went to an elementary school and played various games with the local students. She also participated in the SAAC-sponsored Community Holiday Meal, serving food and playing games with members of the Knoxville community. Batts also participated in the VOL-oween, passing out candy to kids and interacting with families at UT.
Â
She is a two-time member of the SEC Spring Honor Roll (2018, 2019).
