Lady Vols Drop Tight 4-3 Decision at MSU

STARKVILLE, Miss. – The Tennessee women's tennis team fell to Mississippi State in a 4-3 battle on Friday in Starkville.
UT (9-3, 0-2 SEC) started fast, taking the doubles point.
The No. 13-ranked junior pair of Kaitlin Staines and Tenika McGiffin won their match on court one over No. 56-ranked Magda Adalolou and Tamara Racine 6-3.
Freshman Carly Briggs and senior Ariadna Riley clinched the point on court three with a 6-4 win over Marta Falceto and Sara Lizariturry.
MSU (8-4, 2-1 SEC) opened singles scoring with a win on court three. The Bulldogs' Adalolou defeated Briggs 6-3, 6-1 to even the score at 1-1.
Freshman Hadley Doyle collected the first singles point for UT on court five. The freshman took down Sara Lizariturry in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.
No. 43-ranked sophomore Rebeka Mertena gave UT a 3-1 lead with a win on court one. She took down Racine in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.
On court two, No. 59-ranked senior Johanna Silva fell to No. 88-ranked Emma Antonaki in a split decision, 4-6, 6-1, 6-4. MSU grabbed a point, cutting the Lady Vols lead to 3-2 with matches on courts two and six.
Riley fell on court six in a three-set battle to Marta Falceto, 0-6, 6-2, 6-4, to tie the dual at 3-3 with court four still in action.
On court four, junior Kaitlin Staines fell to Alexandra Mikhailuk, 4-6, 6-2, 6-3, to give MSU the match.
Up next, the Lady Vols will take on Ole Miss in Oxford on Sunday.
