TRACK CENTRAL: Virginia Tech Challenge

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee track & field will send six athletes to compete in five events at the Virginia Tech Challenge, with action from Blacksburg set for Friday and Saturday at the Rector Field House. This will be the final weekend of indoor regular season competition for the Big Orange before traveling to the SEC Championships next week (Feb. 28-29).

Alexis Duncan will open the meet for Tennessee on Friday with the women's 60-meter hurdles prelims at 5:50 p.m. Other entries for UT this weekend include Sebastian Cooper (men's 400m), Hannah Jefcoat (women's pole vault), Jonathan Sacoor (men's 400m), Jalen Tate (men's triple jump) and Jordan West (men's shot put).

The group will go up against competition from 15 other collegiate programs: Concord, Duke, Elon, ETSU, Hampton, High Point, James Madison, Lynchburg, NC State, Radford, USC Upstate, VCU, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Winthrop. Live results will be provided by Flash Results, Inc.

VOLS CRACK TOP 10: In the latest installment of the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) national track & field rating index, the Tennessee men's squad moved up nine spots to No. 9 in the NCAA Division I rankings. This marks the highest ranking for UT since 2016, when the Vols ended the campaign as the No. 6 program in the nation.

McLEOD EARNS SEC HONORS: Tennessee sophomore Carey McLeod was named SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week following a world-class pair of performances at the Tiger Paw Invitational last weekend. The Kingston, Jamaica, native recorded the No. 1 mark in the world for the 2019-20 season in the men's long jump with a leap of 8.16 meters (26-9.25) before posting the No. 2 mark in the NCAA this year in the men's triple jump (16.68m / 54-8.75).

ROAD TO ALBUQUERQUE: UT currently has eight athletes that rank inside the top-16 nationally in their respective events on the 2019-20 NCAA indoor list. Those inside the top-16 following the conference championships will qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships, set for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.

UP NEXT: Tennessee will begin postseason action next week at the 2020 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Texas A&M at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station. The conference meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 28-29.
