TRACK CENTRAL: Tiger Paw Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee track & field is set to compete in a loaded field this weekend as the team travels to Clemson, South Carolina, to wrap up the indoor regular season at the Tiger Paw Invitational. UT's 18th-ranked men's squad is one of 16 top-25 programs entered at the meet, set to run Friday and Saturday at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex.

A contingent of 68 Tennessee Vols and Lady Vols will make the trip to Clemson, competing in 31 different track & field events. The invitational begins Friday at noon with the women's long jump, weight throw, pole vault and 60m hurdles qualifying rounds and will conclude Saturday at 4:05 p.m. with the men's 4x400-meter relay.

ON TOP OF THE WORLD: Tennessee high jumper Darryl Sullivan will compete for the first time since January 18 at the Virginia Tech Invitational, where he recorded a 2020 world-leading clearance of 2.33m (7-7.75). The senior from Marion, Illinois, tied the all-time SEC indoor record and No. 4 performance in collegiate track & field history indoors.

Following the Virginia Tech Invite, Sullivan was honored as USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week and SEC Men's Field Athlete of the Week. He was more recently named to the men's watch list for The Bowerman award, presented annually as collegiate track & field's highest individual honor.

LAST TIME OUT: UT sent a small group of six athletes to the Doc Hale Elite Meet last weekend in Blacksburg, Virginia. Three Vol throwers picked up podium finishes as Jordan West (18.99m / 62-3.75) and Joseph Maxwell (18.70m / 61-4.25) went 1-2 in the men's shot put while Georgios Korakidis (20.80m / 68-3) took a runner-up finish in the men's weight throw.

ROAD TO ALBUQUERQUE: UT has seven athletes that rank inside the top-16 nationally of their respective events on the 2019-20 NCAA indoor list. Those inside the top-16 following the conference championships will qualify for the NCAA Indoor National Championships, set for March 13-14 in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
VOLS ADD DUAL SPORT ATHLETE: Tennessee freshman Kenney Solomon is set to make his collegiate track & field debut this weekend at Clemson, competing in the men's open 60-meter dash. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native is also a member of the Vols' football team, continuing UT's long-standing tradition of dual sport athletes in football and track. Solomon appeared in 11 games during the 2019 season as a reserve defensive back and special teams player, recording an interception in his debut against Chattanooga. Prior to Tennessee, he earned runner-up finishes in the 100-meter (10.57) and 200-meter (21.57) dashes at the South Carolina 5A high school state championship meet.
UP NEXT: Tennessee will take a two-week break from competition before beginning postseason action at the 2020 SEC Indoor Track & Field Championships, hosted by Texas A&M at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium in College Station. The conference meet is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 28-29.
