VFL Bunny Shaw Recognized As No. 49 Female Footballer In The World
December 10, 2020 | Soccer
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Former Tennessee superstar Bunny Shaw has been rated as the No. 49 women's soccer player in the world by The Guardian, as the publication released its list of the best 100 female footballers in the world for 2020 earlier this week.
Â
Since graduating from Tennessee in May of 2019, Shaw has spent the first two seasons of her professional career with FC Girondins de Bordeaux, a top flight club in France. The striker from Spanish Town, Jamaica, currently leads the D1 Arkema league with 13 goals in 10 matches this season and was selected as the league's Player of the Month for October.
Â
One of the greatest scorers in Tennessee history, Shaw finished her two-year career on Rocky Top as the program's all-time leader in goals per game (0.77) and points per game (1.86). A two-time first team All-SEC honoree, she was named the 2018 SEC Offensive Player of the Year and became UT's seventh All-American later that season—earning second team honors from the United Soccer Coaches.
Â
Shaw played 35 matches at Tennessee while balancing duties with the Jamaican Women's National Team. She led the Reggae Girlz through the World Cup qualifying stage in 2018, as her 19 goals scored in qualifying tournaments were the most by any player worldwide. With a third-place finish at the CONCACAF Women's Championship in October of 2018, Shaw helped Jamaica secure its first-ever bid to the Women's World Cup.
