KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The Tennessee men's golf team is set to compete in its third and final tournament of the fall, traveling south for the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate in Vestavia Hills, Ala.
The tournament, hosted by Alabama, will run from Sunday through Tuesday at the Old Overton Club, with one round of 18 holes per day. Like Tennessee's previous two tournaments this fall, Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate field will consist of all 14 SEC schools.
Through its two all-SEC tournaments this season, Tennessee boasts a 21-4-1 record, which is tied with Vanderbilt for the best mark in the conference. Each of the five golfers that have been a part of the Vols' two tournaments this season have recorded at least one top-25 finish.
After finishing second as a team at the Blessings Collegiate to open the fall, last time out at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate, Tennessee had three top-25 finishers on its way to a tied for fourth place finish.
Tying for 18th place and shooting 6-under, Bryce Lewis was the Vols' top finisher, while Spencer Cross and Rhys Nevin shot 5-under and tied for 24th place.
THE VOLS' LINEUP
Bryce Lewis
In two tournaments this fall, Lewis has shot par or better in every round – including three rounds in the 60s. He boasts a team-leading 70.00 stroke average so far this season.
In eight career tournaments as a Vol (individual or as a part of Tennessee's lineup), Lewis has now finished inside the top-20 six times.
Hunter Wolcott
Tennessee's top finisher and overall runner-up at the Blessings Collegiate to open the fall, Wolcott's 71.17 stroke average is second-best on the team so far this season.
Five of Wolcott's six rounds this season have counted in Tennessee's team score for that round.
Rhys Nevin
Nevin rebounded from a 51st place finish at the Blessings Collegiate by recording his 20th career top-25 finish at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate.
Nevin shot a 66 in his first round at the Vanderbilt Legends Club, which tied his best round as a Vol and is the best one-round score by any Vol this season.
Spencer Cross
Like Nevin, Cross also bounced back from a low finish at the Blessings Collegiate by placing inside the top 25 at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate.
Cross shot all three rounds under par at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate.
Jake Hall
A redshirt freshman from Knoxville's Halls High School, Hall is set to make his Tennessee debut at the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
Though it is his first time as a member of Tennessee's five-man lineup, Hall did compete in four tournaments during the fall of 2019 as an individual – recording a best finish of 20th place at the Intercollegiate at the Grove.
