November 08, 2020 | Men's Golf
VESTAVIA HILLS, Ala. – The Tennessee men's golf team has three golfers in the top 20 and sits in fourth place after Sunday's opening round of the Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate.
The Vols shot 6-under 274 as a team on Sunday, marking the fifth round this season (out of seven total) in which they have registered a par or better score.
"A solid start for us today," head coach Brennan Webb said. "I was really proud of Jake Hall for shooting 66 in his first round in the lineup for us."
In his first career tournament as a member of Tennessee's five-man starting lineup, Hall led the Vols during round one, carding a 4-under 66. Hall recorded seven birdies over the course of the afternoon and is tied for fourth place overall entering Monday's second round.
Two strokes behind Hall was Hunter Wolcott, who rebounded from being the Vols' fifth-best score at the Vanderbilt Legends Collegiate to give Tennessee its second-best score on Sunday. Wolcott carded a 2-under 68 – consisting of one eagle and two birdies – and is tied for 12th place.
After shooting 1-under 69 on his way to a tie for 18th place, Rhys Nevin gave Tennessee its third golfer inside the top 20. The round stands as Nevin's fourth round of par or better this season.
