October 07, 2020 | Men's Golf
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Tennessee men's golf team wrapped up its opening tournament of the fall Wednesday, finishing runner-up at the Blessings Collegiate Invitational.
Â
Led by two top-five individual finishers in Hunter Wolcott and Bryce Lewis, the Vols navigated the 14-team SEC field to finish 7-over 873 over the course of the tournament's three rounds.
Â
"I'm disappointed to not have played better today and given ourselves a better opportunity to win, but there are so many positives to take from this week," head coach Brennan Webb said. "Hunter and Bryce had great tournaments and I was really proud of how hard Brayden grinded all week.
Â
"The unique format allowed me to learn a lot about these guys and I know it will be extremely beneficial for us heading into the rest of the season."
Â
Just one tournament into his third season as head coach, the Vols have now finished in the top three of a tournament 10 times under the direction of Webb.
Â
Wolcott finished the tournament tied for second place, just two strokes behind individual champion Alex Goff from Kentucky. It marks the third time during Wolcott's career in which he has finished in the top two of a tournament and fifth time he's recorded a top-five finish.
Â
The Burns, Tennessee, native shot 1-under during Wednesday's third round, bringing his three-round total to 4-under 212.
Â
Lewis came up just one stroke short of tying Wolcott, finishing 3-under 213 after shooting even par on Wednesday.
Â
The tie fourth-place marks Lewis' highest finish in any tournament as a Vol and his fifth top-15 finish in just seven collegiate tournaments.
Â
Senior Brayden Garrison gave Tennessee a third top-25 finisher, coming in a tie for 21st place with a three-round score of 4-over 220. It represents Garrison's 14th career top-25 finish, a mark that ranks second on the team.
